Designed to Fail! + How to Fix,
We purchased this item after trying the amazingly disappointing FroliCat BOLT Interactive Laser Pet Toy. The BOLT is falsely advertised and moves very slowly in a small elliptical pattern. Our two cats thought was interesting but got bored with it before the timer was up. The DART appeared to be a better product and more fast paced.
The first thing you notice with the DART is the noise. It is loud and hard to ignore. The changing of the pattern, squeaking plastic parts and loud gears are enough to drive a calm person insane. Our cats enjoyed it enough that we have endured the horrible sounds. It does have several speed settings but unless you cat is also a ninja, you will not need the higher settings. As other reviewers have mentioned, the slowest setting is actually to fast.
After a week of use, the DART began to shut off abrubtley. Most of the reviewers who had this problem returned it only to receive another item that failed. So, I decided to take the risk and repair it myself.
FIX:
Remove the four philips screws on the bottom and you’re in. First thing you will see are the cheapest, thinnest wires known to man. Seriously, I surprised this thing even lasted a week. On mine, the negative wire had detached from the battery compartment. On the negative lead, there was a large mound of solder, which was the source of weakness. So, not only are the components cheap and of poor quality, the product was also assembled in a shoddy way. Clean up and re-solder the wires and you should be back up and running. Our cats patiently waited and watched me as I repaired their favorite toy!
It was a quick fix but not one you should have to perform. The product is a great idea but the manufaturer compromised on too many things for me to recommend this product. (Unless you like do-it-yourself projects!)

|My 2-yr old cats love it!,
I have two 2-year old cats, and they both love it. Any time I come within a few feet of it, they come running from the other room and sit next to it, waiting for me to turn it on. They’ll chase it around for a few minutes, then sit and watch it for a few minutes, then chase it some more.
A couple of notes:
- Raise it off the ground to increase the size of the circle the laser light makes around it. I have an open space for it about 6ft x 6ft, and I found it’s perfect when raised about 10-12″ off the ground. I tried it out about 4 feet off the ground and the circle it followed would work great in a larger room.
- I set mine in a shallow clear plastic tub (it sticks out over the rim a couple of inches). This makes it less likely the cats will start playing with the housing and knock it over.

|great distraction, cats love it.,
My female kitten loves it and will play with it for quite a while. The boy kitten has figured out how to turn it on and off. Pretty funny. However, my little boy kitten got his nail caught in the area of the lasor pointer twice and it freaked me out a little. Overall, it’s fun for them and keeps them busy while I’m eating. That’s good enough for me.
